"Dead To The World" The April 2007 released debut album from Yvonne-Marie Evans.
A chilled, yet Lyrically, Beautiful, easy listening, though at times emotional album!
YME Influences.....
I dont feel I have any musical influences & heres why........
I got brought up with brass band music as I used to play in a miners welfare band from the age of 8 till I was about 11 years old and apart from that I was brought up on church songs and the Birdie song & nelly the elephant! which certainly has no connection with the type of music I produce! as I had a crazy dad who has bizzare musical taste!
Until I was 13 years old I hadnt heard any radio music / main stream anything or anything I can remember absorbing, This is embarassing and some of you may want to Hurt me for it but I hadnt heard of "NIRVANA" Till I was about 20 years old!(Im 24 now!) EEK! I know pretty shocking!
When I did finally hear other peoples music I didnt really catch on to the whole thing, One thing that encouraged me to pick up a guitar was "Oasis" and the track "Wonderwall" as I wanted to be able to play it sooooo bad when I was 17years old & I did just that and havent put my guitar down since, Though Im no pro on it! Hence me needing my band to make it pro sounding.
I was into writing poetry at aged 15 and once I'd got the guitar going that progressed into writing songs or I suppose "Mumbo-Jumbo" at the time but I've progressed alot since then! LOL!
I am just wondering if any other musicians had the same experience as me? as people are always asking what my musical influences are and Im always stuck for an answer, well or a two hour convo explaining just this! YME
THE STORY......
I’m Yvonne-Marie Evans (YME for short) I’m 24 years old and have been writing & playing my own music since I can remember. I decided to take it a step further back in 2004 (when I was 19) and made a demo CD and promoted it myself as much as I could.
I managed to get the attention of a Canadian artist promotions company and I sold everything I had and moved over there. Though still unsigned and unmanaged I released two singles & worked my socks off to enable me financially to get the songs recorded and onto the radio. One of my songs did well on Canadian radio but I never actually sold it as a single.
One year later I fell out with that company as they were trying to turn me into some cheesy pop act and anyone that knows me knows that I’m definitely not that! So I packed up my life there and headed back to the UK.
Back at home in Devon I got myself together and 2 months later found myself back in Aberdeen, Scotland again as this is where I had worked previously. Seriously lacking funds after my Canadian trip I knuckled down and worked my socks off in the hope I'd be able to produce my first album by myself.
A year on in April 2007 "Dead To The World" my debut album got released, though still unsigned & managed only by the contents of my own head, I was determined to get it heard. I had session musicians come in for some tracks on the album, and these guys have now been with me as my band ever since (The YME's). My 3 sexy musical guys that I adore!
Determined to get my tracks heard, I sent over 300 copies of the album out into the UK music scene as well as selling the album through my website and at gigs. Despite my efforts I hadn’t attracted any record companies or labels.
Not one to give up, I planned a tour for me and my band in October 2007 throughout the UK over a two week period, despite our tour vehicle breaking down and some gigs being cancelled by the promoters, we managed to play all our gigs that were booked and get through it alive! A few of the shows were amazing and the energy and feedback the band and I got back was brilliant, This encouraged me to work my butt off again and record a 2nd album, which I have just recently finished, but yet to be released. "KALEIDOSCOPE" will hopefully attract the attention of people this time round and if not, I'll do it all over again and again and again until someone in the music industry does take notice!
I've worked my socks off trying to get auditions for years and no-one has ever given me a chance to prove my worth of my music, I believe in it and I believe if I could get it heard to a wider audience I could help people with my music, after all- all music is about life, passion & Love and if you can help someone who cant write there feeling down musically but they can relate to yours then thats all I'd want from my music, To help those who cannot write for themselves! YME
